On the 15th of September Mrs Dale, John & Vicky went up towards Edinburgh to rescue two donkeys who have subsequently been named Benedict (in celebration of the Pope visit around the same time) and Craig (It was near Craigmillar Castle that he was rescued). They have not been handled for a very very long time and their feet are in an awful state. The rescue took some time and John and Vicky certainly knew that they had been given a challenge. Eventually the donkeys were pushed and manhandled into the trailer and driven back down to the sanctuary. Benedict and Craig are being kept away from the other donkeys at present due to the various problems that they had (lice were evident and treated immediately) The feet problem was certainly the worst that Mrs Dale has seen over the years and the Farrier and Vet were called in immediately and a programme of treatment has begun. The second treatment will take place today (Tues 28,Sept) They are very wary of people so they are being left to adapt to their new surroundings and given time it is hoped that they will come around and allow some minor handling. |
