Piper with Mum Tulip

We knew that Tulip was heavily pregnant along with Octavia (we think) and both were moved to the new shelter on the advice of our vet. The very next morning Piper was born (Thursday 7th April 2011). John Wilson  (who does the early feeding shift at the moment) told us that he must have just missed the birth by a number of minutes when he came in early that morning. Tulip was not exactly keen to welcome any human visitors so she was left to just care for her foal herself. The next day she was much more amenable to visitors and a number of us went to see the new chap early Friday morning and Tulip was very relaxed about seeing us.

Tulip you may be aware came to us just prior to Christmas along with a number of other rescued donkeys  from France. Piper is obviously in good health and Tulip appears to be a very good mother and we can only assume has previously had foals.

I am sure that Piper would love a visit from any donkey lover over the weekend. He is very sweet as you can see from the picture above.
